sew olden times emerged during my years in graduate school while raising a young child. The series combines watercolor painting, printmaking, collage, and sewing to reflect on early motherhood, memory, and the process of learning new skills during a period of significant personal change. The series also marks my first experience with sewing. Having never used a sewing machine before, I began stitching directly into paper, incorporating thread as both a structural and visual element within the collages. Prints, painted imagery, and sewn materials intersect across the surface, allowing the process of construction to remain visible. The work reflects a time when multiple identities were being formed simultaneously: artist, student, mother.
