sun + memory plans is a series of fifty-one works created during an artist residency to mark my fifty-first year. Made while away from my family on my birthday for the first time since becoming a mother, the series emerged from a period of reflection, solitude, and unexpected connection. Each piece corresponds to a year of life, forming a visual meditation on memory, change, loss, love, resilience, and growth. Vessels appear throughout the series as containers for experience, carrying traces of personal history while remaining open to transformation. Repeated forms create a rhythm across the work, suggesting both continuity and change as one year gives way to the next. Individual pieces function as markers, while the series as a whole becomes a record of accumulation – a composition. Created during a season of transition, sun + memory plans reflects on the passage of time and the ways identity continues to evolve. The work considers what is carried forward, what is released, and how memory shapes the stories we tell about who we have been and who we are becoming.
